Olivia Rodrigo recently announced the release of her newest album You Look Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love coming out on June 12th, and she is set to go back on tour this September. She released two songs from the album early and also gave sneak peaks during live performances of two other songs that will be featured on the album. An interesting piece of this album is that it is said to have two different types of songs. Half of the tracks will fit the “Girl So in Love” theme, and the other half will fit the “You Look Pretty Sad” theme, as she was writing the songs partly while she was in her most recent relationship and was finishing the album after they broke up.
The first song she released this spring is called “Drop Dead,” and it fits the “Girl So in Love” theme. It is an upbeat, romantic song that captures the feeling of meeting someone and falling in love. The song already went viral on the internet and it’s extremely popular with fans already. The second song she released shortly after is called “The Cure.” It is a sad song that explains how love, no matter how good, is not a cure to deep rooted sadness or self doubt, with lines like “And it feels like medication, and it’s good for me I’m sure, but it don’t matter how your love feels anymore. It’ll never be the cure.” This song too has exploded online.
With the two phenomenal tracks that have already been released, the anticipation among fans for the rest of the album is extremely high. Every new release from Olivia Rodrigo since her debut album Sour, improves from the last as she grows and improves as a songwriter, and there is no doubt that this album will fall short.
