The weather outside was truly frightful this winter and I wish the fire had been delightful enough to do something to help. Early March should’ve been the time when everything was a little muddy and things were starting to get their color again, the bears get up from hibernation and the prospect of spring and summer should feel plausible. But if I were a bear and I woke up to see what was going on over the last couple of weeks, I would go right back to sleep.
I didn’t think that March 3rd would hold a snowstorm so bad students can’t see who’s in what car. I’m all for a winter wonderland during the holiday season, and having a beautiful coat of snow for New Years, and even enjoying Valentine’s Day with a romantic light snowfall. But after Valentine’s Day, it needs to be done. Snowstorms have reached the limit. I know some people like the winter, and winter is pretty until there is a cycle of snow melting, then ice, then more snow, then dirt, and then we’re at the end of March with snirt (snow dirt) on parking lots, roads and driveways.
Some places had snowbanks so high it looked like there was a clan of ten foot tall abominable snowmen watching the cars go by. This weather froze pipes, snowstorms cut power, and the roads became a gamble on going ice skating or mud wrestling. It’s possible all of this is just from the fact that we’re located in New England, however, people all over America have felt this winter and its rarity.
I am personally fed up with this winter weather, and I would like to enjoy the outdoors in its beauty without wet socks, dirty pant legs, and the fear of an E.R. visit. Berkshire County better be approaching the most gorgeous spring and summer, free from all the moisture it felt necessary to dump on us all winter. Stay safe out there.
