After this year’s 2026 Olympics, the women’s US hockey team declined an invitation to celebrate with president Trump. Both the men and women’s team took home a victory, but president Trump made an insensitive joke to the boys, saying he would be “impeached” if he did not also invite the girls to their celebration. Many of the men laughed at this joke, but the women were not happy.

Hilary Knight, who was a key player to the women’s team winning the gold, called his joke “distasteful.” The woman then rejected the invite and instead, celebrated with famous rapper, Flavor Flav. This led to the men’s team celebrating alone with the president, where they were fed McDonald’s. 

Not only did the women’s team not attend, on Saturday Night Live, Hilary Knight and Megan Keller mocked Trump’s joke saying, “It was going to be just us, but we thought we’d invite the guys too.” Two of the men’s players then joined them for the SNL skit. Since the incident, several of the men’s players have apologized and show regret for laughing along with the poor joke

Overall, the women’s team did what they thought was right; they didn’t allow a cruel comment to take away from their impressive accomplishment and pride amongst their team. When they were mistreated, they stood up for themselves and didn’t allow it to be ignored.
