As of January 12th, 2026, Russia has launched a nuclear – capable Oreshnik missile on Ukraine for the second time. Following the launch, Ukraine held a meeting to discuss the attack against Ukraine. In recent times, the United States, Ukraine, and Russia are actively discussing a 20 – point peace plan, promising to protect Ukraine for 15 years, although President Zelenskyy is looking for 50 years of protection. This agreement is currently the closest it has ever been to reaching a resolution, as Zelenskyy believes that this plan is essential for the ending of the Russia-Ukraine War.
President Putin followed up by stating that he would not accept NATO troops in Ukraine and also claimed that Ukraine had attempted to attack his residence through the use of long range drones. Zelenskyy denied the claim, further explaining that it was a lie to set the peace agreement off track.
Throughout these issues, President Trump has stated that he believes that a peace agreement is very close as he hosted President Zelenskyy, but also stated that he did not like President Putin’s claim related to the attack on his residence. Although the peace agreement is said to be coming to a resolution, some Ukrainian citizens doubt that President Putin’s actions and words are truthful, as Russia continues to claim that it is advancing and securing its borders.
