Artificial intelligence has become an increasingly concerning and worrying subject matter globally, especially in the last few months. Not knowing whether the video you’re watching is made by a computer or by a human’s own creativity has become a large controversy.
One of the dangers of AI is its ability to create propaganda to be widely shared to the internet. Trump has posted AI generated videos to his social media accounts depicting various scenarios and is used as a kind of political weapon. These videos are used to mock any political rivals, portray President Trump as honorable, and celebrate him and his cabinet as role models. Most concerningly, they are done in an almost joking manner. When confronted with the videos, Trump’s administration claims that these videos are part of a strategy with communicating with the public and sending “messages” through these videos.
There have been many examples of Trump using artificial intelligence for his own political prowess. During the presidential election between Trump and Kamala Harris, he used AI generated content to send messages to the public. In this campaign, Trump claimed that the Haitian immigrants in Ohio are “eating the dogs” and “eating the cats.” This claim caused a backlash from the public and Trump responded by posting an AI generated picture of him embracing a variety of animals including cats, dogs, and ducks.
Earlier this year, Trump posted a video of Hakeem Jeferies, who is the House minority leader, in stereotypical Mexican attire. This further included Chuck Schumer with an AI voice talking down on the Democratic party. During the “No Kings” protest, Trump made an AI video depicting him in a fighter jet labeled “King Trump” while he appeared to be throwing fecal matter on people below.
The point of this content is to go viral and to get attention and recognition from the public, throwing shade on other politicians and giving Trump praise. With the endless possibilities from the human mind, the endless creation ability of AI is a horrifying combination. It’s hard to tell what else Trump could create with the vastness of AI, but it has caused a lot of attention from the media on both the left and right. Is it just a political strategy or is it something more sinister and a display of authority.
