Due to the federal government shutdown in October, SNAP benefits were cut. On November 1st, one million people in Massachusetts alone did not receive federal food aid. This issue greatly impacted many families in our community and across the country, as many rely on these benefits to put food on the table and feed their families. Despite these unfortunate circumstances, there are many organizations where folks can receive help, or can offer assistance in this time of need.
There are many organizations in Berkshire County that are taking action to help struggling families. One organization is the Berkshire Food Project. They are located in North Adams and they are dependent on volunteers to prepare the hot meals. This local organization is a tremendous resource for anyone in need, as well as an amazing option for anyone looking to help.
With so many people in need right now, it is crucial that people work as a community to help. There are many resources out there and someone should never be afraid to reach out and seek help when they need it.
