Panic! At The Disco – Viva Las Vengeance Review

Sydney Moriarty, Junior Editor-in-Chief

Starting their music career in 2004, Panic! At The Disco quickly became one of the most popular “emo” bands of the early 2000s. (Emo basically being the younger cousin of the music genre punk.) They are known as one of the cornerstones of the “emo trinity” which also included Fall Out Boy and My Chemical Romance.

As someone who loves punk music and has listened to Panic for years, I was both really excited and kind of nervous about the new album. No one knew exactly what to expect with the new album because it had been four years since the last Panic album, and they have a history of changing their style. Over the many years Panic has been around, they have changed their style of music from emo to rock to pop and rock. Even though they have changed styles, they are also known for remaining a good band throughout the changes.

They released the first song named “Viva Las Vengeance” on June 1st 2022 and announced that the rest of the album would be released on August 19th, being a “ tale about growing up in Las Vegas. It’s about love, fame, burnout and everything that happens in between. On June 21st they also announced that they would be going on tour with guests Marina and Jake Wesley Rogers.

So through the summer I waited for the album to release, and every now and then they’d release one song off the album. Eventually the date came around and the entire album was released. The album was honestly incredible and some of the songs on it have become some of my favorite songs from Panic.

I was lucky enough to be able to go and see Panic in concert for a birthday gift, and they are even more incredible in person. They played their entire new album mixed with some of their older songs. They also showed their support to the LGBTQIIA+ community by playing their song “Girl Girls Boys” and creating a rainbow of light around the stadium.

Even though Panic has changed their style of music throughout the years, they have still maintained a rock element in their new music. I highly recommend the new album, especially songs “Viva Las Vengeance,” “Middle of a Breakup,” and “Star Spangled Banger.” It was honestly hard to pick just those three songs to mention there, so you should really just go and listen to the entire album.
