The Black Phone is a horror, rated R movie. It is about a serial killer who kidnaps young boys and puts them in his basement. They are given a black phone that has not worked in a very long time since the kidnapper was a kid.

The main character Finney is a baseball player who plays against another boy named Bruce. Finney’s team loses the game, and Bruce says: “you almost got me, and your arm is mint.” After the game, Bruce decides to ride his bike home. As he is riding home, he is kidnapped by a serial killer who drives a black van.

The next day, Finney goes to school and gets bullied by his peers and is cornered and scared. He runs into the bathroom until Robin (Finney’s best friend and also known as the strongest boy in school) scares the bullies off. Robin can’t help but feel bad for Finney and wants to teach him how to defend himself.

Meanwhile, Finney’s sister has the ability to dream clues as to the whereabouts of the kidnapper. Finney’s sister, Gwen, tries to tell the police about her scarily realistic dreams. However, they do not believe her. Gwen visits with her friend every Friday and always walks to her house. Finney always walks home after school by himself, leaving him vulnerable. Out of nowhere, the black van pulls against the curb of the sidewalk, and Finney is abducted. Finney is taken from the street with no one to witness.

As Finney finally gains his conscientiousness, he can see a black phone next to him. He can see nothing but the phone. The only light in the room comes from a small, square window placed near the ceiling. As Finney attempts to climb up to the window, the black phone rings. Finney knows this phone has not been functioning for a very long time, as the kidnapper has told him. This clearly puzzles Finney. He reaches for the phone, hoping the person on the other line is someone who can save him. Just as his hand hovers over the phone, it stops ringing, and he hears his kidnapper’s muffled voice through the basement door.

The phone suddenly starts to ring again, so Finney picks it up and listens. The people on the other line begin to give Finney hints to help him get out and find a way out of the basement. So the phone keeps ringing, and Finn keeps getting hints, but meanwhile, the killer’s brother is trying to figure out who keeps capturing the kids and where he could be hiding them. After a couple of clues, he figures out that they are in his basement.

Finney finally manages to escape from the basement, alive and scared. Finney will also no longer be bullied in school as his peers believe he is incredibly brave for what he has accomplished.
