Track Boys Article

The Wahconah Boys Track team is coming back strong this year. In the previous season, the team went 5 – 1, only losing to the Greylock team that was double the size. This year, however, the team is working on a County Championship with the most athletes on the team in years.

The track team is growing in size and every event is getting filled at Wahconah. With over 18 guys in the 100-meter dash, the shortest and fastest event at every track meet, Wahconah is well poised to take the lead. There are large distance, throwing, jumping, and hurdling teams as well, each completing the relay teams and filling the podium.

On Saturday, March 30th the boys kicked off the 2024 track season at Williams Track, competing with teams from the entire county in a scrimmage. If scored, Wahconah would have done very well. In the hurdles, Liam Furlong won both the 300 and 60-meter hurdles with the other Wahconah boys close behind. In throwing, Payton Shippee won the Discus while Cooper Calvert took the Triple Jump. Calvert now holds the state record in the triple jump at this point in the season. Additionally, Lorenzo Lewis swept the 400-meter dash in 53 seconds with a large group of Wahconah runners close behind. In the 100m dash, Payton Shippee again showed up in third in 13 heats of 8 to claim a time of 11.98 with West Dews only a fraction of a second later 12.13 seconds. In the mile, Aidan Garcia and Noah Wesley came in 5:28 and 5:29 respectively to form a solid group to advance in the distance events. In total, blue held 6 first-place finishes on Saturday’s meet.

After a powerful opening meet, Wahcoah has established its superiority. The County Championship is on the way!
