Top Gun: Maverick

Top Gun: Maverick

On May 27th, 2022, Top Gun: Maverick was released in theaters. The movie came thirty-six years after its 1986 namesake: Top Gun. Beloved for its up-close shots of fighter jet cockpits, action sequences, and one-of-a-kind cinematography, the first Top Gun was a cinema favorite. Its sequel provides more of these sequences and re-introduces the title character Pete “Maverick” Mitchell. As done in the original movie, Maverick is again taken to the program Top Gun, exclusive to crème de la crop fighter pilots. This time though, he serves as an instructor tasked with teaching Top Gun graduates how to fly a near-impossible mission that “just can’t be done.” The next scenes follow the pilots through tests, emotional confrontations, and play. In the film’s climax, the characters must face their fears and finish the mission of a lifetime.

Ultimately, Top Gun: Maverick presents as a classic Hollywood action film. And with its countless inspirational scenes, training sequences, and joyous celebrations of life and love, it is. But “Top Gun: Maverick” has its surprises. Among the action, the movie successfully portrays sadness, pain, and the trials of friendship. The viewers watch each character grow from the challenges and learn to work together despite their differences. Viewers may turn to the term “bromance,” which reflects the time-tested bond of ‘Maverick’ and fellow pilot ‘Iceman.’ Essentially, the film emphasizes the necessity of solid bonds and hope above all else.

Top Gun: Maverick comes highly recommended. After grossing over one billion at the box office and claiming the number six spot of highest-grossing films of all time, it is sufficient to say Top Gun: Maverick is a hit. The movie is also critically acclaimed, with a 97% score on the popular critic platform, Rotten Tomatoes. For those looking for an exciting, feel-good film, Top Gun: Maverick is the perfect choice for movie night. A match can also be found in this film for those looking for a sentimental ode to humanity. I give 5/5 stars for this one.
