Wahconah Volleyball

In the second year of being in the PVIC league. the Wahconah volleyball team has dominated their season. With a current record of 17-1, only being beaten by Turners Falls, the lady Warriors have earned their place as tenth in the state so far in division 4.

There have been many tough matches for the team, including a thrilling five-set game against Berkshire county rival Mount Greylock. This non-league match was a back-and-forth fight for a win. With set scores of 27-25, 16-25, 27-25, 13-25, and 15-12, the Warriors pushed for a victory over the Mounties. 

In their away match against Lee, senior captain McKenzie LaBier recorded a season-best of 18 kills against the Wildcats. The Warriors defeated Lee in three sets, a major comeback from their previous 5 set match against the Wildcats the week before. During the second set, the Warriors suffered the loss of a player due to injury, senior Bre Robert. The team overcame this and pushed for their three-set win, which earned them a spot in the state tournament.

The dominating nature of the Warriors is not only observed in person at their games but also within their stats. Within the season, the team has recorded around 560 kills, 450 assists, 450 aces, and 770 digs. The team kill leaders include McKenzie LaBier, and junior Olivia Mason, recording 165 and 105 kills, respectively. Senior setters Casey Wilson and Jennah Bird have recorded roughly 170 assists each this season. Junior Libero Sasha Fyfe has recorded a team-high of 204 digs this season. Sasha also leads the team with 94 aces, followed by senior Hannah Friedman with 73 aces.

The Warriors’ dominating season earned them an invitation to play in the Volleyball Hall of Fame tournament on the tenth of October. The team traveled to American International College to play high-ranked teams from all over the state and even teams from other states. This impressive season for the warriors has not only earned them the tenth spot in the state for division four but also a high ranking in the Western Mass tournament.
