Last year, the term, “brain rot” was given the title of the 2024 Oxford Word of the Year due to its gain in popularity at the end of 2024 and early 2025. Oxford defines brain rot as “the supposed deterioration of a person’s mental or intellectual state, especially viewed as the result of overconsumption of material considered to be trivial or unchallenging.” We’re sure that most of you have heard about brain rot and have most definitely watched, shared, enjoyed, and laughed about the content yourselves, as we definitely have. Considering that most of you have, and the occasional, “67” heard in the hallways, we decided to poll students and ask this question: What is your favorite brain rot?
A variety of responses were given through our online poll and our short interviews.
Some responses derive from newer terms like “67” and “I’m four years old!” These became popular recently in 2025. Despite this, many students still enjoy classic brain rot terms, like Skibbity Toilet, Rizz, and Sigma.
After speaking with a few Wahconah students in order to understand the meaning behind their decisions, a question arose: are these terms really just senseless jokes or are they truly meaningful to the students of Wahconah? Junior Henry Emerson answered this question for us by stating, “my favorite is Sigma, but there’s a good sigma and a bad sigma. It’s a mentality and a mindset. It takes a lot to be a sigma.”
