Trunk Or Treat this year was a festive time. The events boasted wonderful costumes, great music, and a wide variety of treats from Apple Juice to Whoppers.
On the 29th of October, The Pittsfield Cooperative Bank was flooded with fright as cars rolled up to prepare for another wonderful Trunk or Treat. While the event was small, the candy hunt was decorated enough to make up for it and provided a great experience for the attendees. Music flooded the parking lot along with creative costumes like a fantastical witch and spooky skeleton.
“I had a great time with my friends just having a wholesome trunk or treat experience and getting some candy; it was delightful,” reported a trunk or treat goer.
But, what truly is Trunk or Treat, and why do people like it so much?
Trunk or Treat is an exciting alternative to typical house-to-house trick or treating. It’s a simple concept, yet has many benefits. You simply have a bunch of cars meet in a central location like a park or parking lot. Each trunk is whimsically decorated for the Halloween season with treats being set up in the trunk for easy trick or treating. Despite its popularity for communities with far away neighbors, or not many neighbors partaking in the Halloween tradition, nobody is quite sure when Trunk or Treat popped up. Some places have even reported indulging the tradition since the ’90s!
So, why do people like going from trunk to trunk rather than door to door? It’s simple: it offers a small and controlled environment. This benefits many people, in many ways. Churches or schools can set up their own fun events where it otherwise wouldn’t have been possible to offer the festivities, spare communities can get together for an easier and more fun-filled experience, and parents can keep a closer eye on their children to ensure safe fun for everybody.
Although, not everybody shares this sentiment. Many people agree that Trunk or Treat is a poor excuse for the Halloween experience. They argue that the whole point of the Halloween experience is to wander from house to house, making the trick or treating experience a true journey packed full of decked out lawns and spooky costumes. You never know what you’ll find, while Trunk or Treat is just too small to encapsulate that. But not every community can enjoy that. Many places aren’t packed enough like a neighborhood would be, so this isn’t possible.
Whatever your opinion, we can all agree that Trunk or Treat is still a spooky-fun experience that anybody can enjoy, young or old.
Happy Halloween!
