Final January 6th Hearing and Report

Following the final January 6th hearings and reports, Donald Trump was charged with crimes relating to what happened on January 6th. What happened on January 6th was likely because Trump didn’t have an exit route as a way to save himself after he had lost to Biden.

Trump has already made it official that he is running again to win his job back. Republicans have now taken control of the House, and the committee is expected to dissolve: “Accountability that can only be found in the criminal justice system, we have every confidence that the work of this committee will help provide a roadmap to justice under the law will use the information we’ve provided to aid in their work,” Committee Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) clearly stated. The biggest news about this final hearing was stated as a very lengthy investigation, the members of the committee were convinced that there was enough evidence to charge Trump on these four things: obstruction, a conspiracy to defraud the US, a conspiracy to false statements, and conspiracy to defraud the US by assisting, aiding, and comforting those that were involved in the January 6th insurrection. This means that Trump will not be charged, and the committee in this situation has no power over what the Justice Department can do: “Ours is not a system of justice, where foot soldiers go to jail and the masterminds and ringleaders get that free pass,” says committee member Jamie Raskin, (D-MD) in an announcement. All of what happened on January 6th, most likely happened because Trump didn’t have an exit way to save himself after his 2020 election loss.

The committee announced that four members of Congress never complied, and were referred to as the House Ethics Committee; they are Republican congressman Kevin McCarthy of California, Jim Jordan of Ohio, Scott Perry of Pennsylvania, and Andy Biggs of Arizona. All of these Republican congressmen are close allies with Trump and their resistance in the face of the rules has been recognized as an antagonistic style of US politics. Hope Hicks- a former communication advisor to the Trump White House, was close to Trump. Trump was concerned for his legacy: “He said something along the lines of, “You know nobody will care about my legacy if I lose,” Hicks claims, “So that won’t matter, the only thing that matters is winning.” says Hicks. It’s no surprise that the country is divided over politics and bias, specifically looking at the Republicans, and besides the evidence shown, and the testimony from the Republicans who were allied with Trump, people have been watching: “Although the Committee’s hearings were viewed live by tens on millions of Americans and widely publicized in nearly every major news source, the Committee also recognizes that other news outlets and commentators have actively discouraged viewers from watching and that millions of other Americans have not yet seen the actual evidence addressed by this Report.” What this means is that the committee has clearly stated that they will release summaries of relevant pieces of information as to what happened during the final January 6th hearing. Now it is up to the viewers to decide, Trump will most likely retain support with his base. Keeping in mind, Republicans have been considered the least likely to pay close attention to the hearings, and Trump remains the front runner in the GOP nomination: “The future of our democracy rests in your hands,” Thompson said. “It’s up to the people to decide who is deserving of the public trust.”
